Today's Design Inspiration - Cubism

I've happened to stumble across the style of art called cubism unknowingly while I was working on some of my own art. This style dates back to 20th century europe and the likes of Picasso. To me cubism represents the process of breaking up objects in their simpler forms and representing each component as a shape, color, or some form of smaller piece. These small pieces, or components, add up to the whole of the image in the completed artwork. Cubism can represent a person or scene or be purely abstract.

Ten New Grungy Brick and Cement Textures Added Today and Ability to Sort Brush Sets!

Bill's picture

I added ten new stock texture images today of brick and cement in various states of decay. I also had a little time to update the Brushes page so that you now have the ability to sort brush sets based on:

  • Latest
  • Name
  • Most Commented
  • Most Viewed
  • That should help out as I add more and more brushes! I will try to do the same soon with patterns and texture packs, although there aren't near as many of those right now.

Create Texture Brushes in Adobe Photoshop

Creating a brush to use as a background texture is very easy in Photoshop. There are just a few things you have to do to prepare any image so that it can be turned into a brush for use later. In this example, I'll turn a stock texture image into a brush. Note that I am using Photoshop CS5. Here is my original image:
